keepin' plants happy

You may already know it if you follow me on Instagram, but I work at a greenhouse.  Yes, that place that is always really humid and really hot but somehow magical and beautiful at the same time.  I started working there three springs ago and have thus spent those last three springs making plants happy and pretty.  I've grown to love plants and now think of them just as another way to enjoy "pretty things".

I'd like to think I know what I'm talking when it comes to flowers...  If you want a hardcore awesome plant, I suggest a trusted succulent.  Looking for something pretty but also fragrant?  The David Austen roses (that make my frequent trips from greenhouse to greenhouse so enjoyable, aka I have to make pitstops almost every time and smell the blooms) are defiantly at the top of the list.  For a pop of color, portulaca.  To add some texture and for a more neutral palette, dusty miller.  Vining plant?  Wondering Jew. Or maybe you need to add a multipurpose plant to your assortment?  Herbs are the way to go.  Whatever you do, please don't get asparagus fern (scratchy and just plain "blah") or marigolds (the flower of traffic cone orange and John Deere yellow).  Thank you.  Sincerely, your local keeper of plants.

Happy evening to you.  Mom and I are watching You've Got Mail for the zillionth time, no shame... no shame.
